RECORDING | Tutorial - Sketchbooks | Part 2
This is a recording of a Tutorial on Zoom that took place on 4th February 2025.
About the original session:
This is a 2 hour tutorial on Zoom following on from Part 1, which covered a wide reaching discussion of sketchbooks and their uses and practicalities. Once you have watched Part 1 you will be ready to embrace more imaginative and ambitious sketchbook projects with simple materials and a clear idea of what you want from your sketchbook.
It will include an in depth discussion on more unusual products available, imaginative materials and a lot of inspiration from contemporary and historical artists who use sketchbooks. We will look at artists’ books and more unconventional approaches to how books can support our artistic practices.
There will then be a sketchbook set up session where we will walk through a worksheet on what you imagine your sketchbook to be like and a range of questions about how to incorporate some of the inspiration from the session into your next sketchbook. You may wish to start your sketchbook in the session, revisit abandoned sketchbooks or just listen, it is entirely up to you! We will not be doing drawing exercises in this tutorial but you are welcome to draw along if you wish.
Finally there will be a Q&A session and you will also be sent a follow up sheet with the details of all of the materials and the other main points discussed so you can relax and listen without taking notes.
I would not recommend buying a sketchbook until you have watched the session but if you have sketchbooks to bring along then please do! This is the second of two tutorials going into more depth around creating more inspiring and imaginative sketchbooks, whereas Part 1 is more about practicalities and how to get started with a clear vision. I would recommend watching Part 1 first before moving onto Part 2.
