Week Thirty-Five | Drawing Kin
The RP has been a huge learning curve and I am endlessly grateful for having done it, although it isn’t quite what I had hoped in the end and there are many things I would do differently now with the benefit of hindsight. A deep look into drawing and what it means has been one of the greatest outcomes for me, to really wade through dusty old books and more niche, contemporary perspectives and invest understanding.
Another personal joy is convincing myself of the relevance of drawing now in the face of such generationally urgent issues. Dryden Goodwin is so personable and down to Earth, his drawings are so accessible to me and yet the work he does is quietly actually having an impact.
The role of animation in Dryden’s work has captured my interest and much of the vitality within the empathetic phenomenon seems to have come from the interrelationship between the stills and motion. I am now reflecting on animation, having never been even remotely interested, considering how animation might be something for me to have a play with.
I continue to consider fairy lights and I’m trying to get over myself on that one. I do like the idea of flickering lights and making a video or something durational from the drawings I am making outside. I look forward to getting outdoors and doing some more drawings with/from the ground and see how the process develops.
