Week Fifty-One | A Stitch Up

I have been imagining sewing into the paper for some time and my first attempt over Christmas was with a sewing machine and wasn’t terribly satisfying. Too orderly. So I had another go over the past week, as I am limited in what I can do with bilateral epicondylitis, ugh. Hand sewing in the evenings has been joyful and finally an opportunity to showcase my extremely shoddy hand sewing. Having quilted for years and felt my machine sewing was pristine so used it for all quilts, I do love kantha and other hand sewn assemblages so here is an excuse to celebrate wonky stitches and knotted backs. I started with the default indigo but was itching to use the neon pink. All works beautifully, the indigo ones will be crying out for white or brown stitching, coming full circle to my love of Boro, mending and quilting. Stitching the lacy paper is beautiful, meaningful and satisfying to do. I look forward to much more.
