Unearthed

I have been unearthing for a while, wondering how the Earth feels and looks from within rather than without. Part of this has been slowly learning about the interconnectivity of natural systems, mostly through mycelium and the drawings I am making of mycelium networks.

I am taking on too much currently and risk betraying my ‘done is better than perfect’ principle so I am going to make these drawings using traditional materials to begin with. I am reminding myself that my art must evolve slowly, shed its skin in its own time, not be ripped off for the sake of convenience or deadlines. So baby steps. I hope to make the drawings and evolve them into unearthed drawings, extracted from below the surface.

These drawings will be

  1. a continuation of the compost drawings

  2. food offerings - from the feedback I am excited about the reassurance and encouragement here, honestly I had worried the composting food was a bit obvious and lame

  3. a continuation of the erasure drawings I made for the Interim show in the first year.

I have a show of drawings in March and these will hopefully be included although they want them framed and I am not sure that really fits with the concepts but there it is. Compromise perhaps.
