Low Residency 2025
Paper Folding Workshop
The Low Residency rather by-passed me - having hoped to be there for the full week it seemed each day became more difficult to attend in person until I was down to just the Saturday, which was the workshop by Christian Azolan. The first half was interesting with photos being taken of the backs of our heads with a paper folding workshop to consider how images change and morph as the paper is manipulated. I found it interesting and really enjoyed seeing how differently the seemingly simple task was approached by the students. The second half was an introduction to the basics of lino printing, which was remedial and seemed to have nothing at all to do with the first half. I found it very basic for a masters degree given how many advanced printmakers were present and lacking in any real imagination but it was nice enough to fiddle about with lino, as I know it well and have been making lino prints for 30 years. Christian said he offered the workshop for children’s parties, which I’m afraid really made me cringe and belittled his otherwise interesting video and folding techniques. Not much was available digitally so that was my only real experience of the Low Residency. My most memorable moment was lunch with Roz in the sunshine.
