MA Work | Drawings
From early on in this MA, drawing has been central to taking a step away from all that I previously knew. Over the past year and a half I have explored what drawing is, what it means to me and what I want to use drawing for in my practice. I have been drawing more than I ever have and I think what I include in the idea of drawing has expanded hugely. I feel that drawing is the backbone of my creative expression and forms the architecture for all thinking. Below are the blog posts that most relate to drawing.
Drawing Journal
I have kept a journal of drawings here, which I have added to consistently over the past year and a half. Click on the image below for a selection of my drawings.
Drawings for the Year One Interim Show
My work took shape quite quickly in the first year with the MA interim show in March 2024. I was excited by the approach and it felt really early on like the project of working with the compost heap and decaying matter in my own garden very much had legs.
Compost Ink Drawings
Following feedback in Unit One I began to consider drawing materials outside of the shop bought and into the sphere of my garden. I made charcoal, paper and compost humus ink. I found the paper a separate whole line of enquiry but the humus ink felt interesting as well. The drawings were developed over the Summer between Years One and Two and they felt kind of forced and not as enjoyable as I had hoped.
